Career Specialties

Mike French's primary area of academic expertise is in the field of biochemistry and molecular biology. His specialty is in protein biochemistry, with an emphasis on the molecular mechanisms of protein degradation.

Professional and Community Activities

French's research program is focused on understanding the biochemistry of how ubiquitin ligases work (French et al., Journal of Biological Chemistry, 2017). He is also interested in understanding how ubiquitin modifications regulate protein degradation and other aspects of cell function (French et al., Cell Discovery, 2021). Current efforts in the French lab are focused on characterizing the architectures and functions of branched ubiquitin chains. His lab uses a combination of protein biochemistry, cell/molecular biology and mass spectrometry-based proteomic techniques. He is currently serving as a guest editor for a special topics collection on heterologous ubiquitin signals to be published in Frontiers in Molecular Biosciences.
