Career Specialties

Christopher Boulton's research uses qualitative methods to analyze media at the level of text, audience and industry in order to critique the intersections of identity and inequality. His scholarly writing appears inÌýHoward Journal of Communications, tripleC: Communication, Capitalism & Critique, International Journal of Communication, Advertising & Society Quarterly, Communication Review, Journal of Media Literacy Education, Debates for the Digital Age, Media Education for a Digital Generation, andÌýThe Routledge Companion to Advertising and Promotional Culture. He's also written columns for popular and trade publications like NBC THINK, Ad Age, and Adweek.

Professional and Community Activities

Boulton began his career atÌýMister Rogers' Neighborhood, then taught documentary film production in Ecuador before returning to write and produce for Travel Channel, CourtTV (now TruTV) and Discovery Channel. He co-wrote and co-producedÌýÌýand has taken students to make award-winning documentaries inÌýEcuador,ÌýMorocco, Thailand and Mexico. He currently serves as director of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê's master's program in social and emerging media.

Honors and Awards

Boulton’s creative work has screened at over 100 film festivals all over the world including theÌýSarasota Film FestivalÌýand won Best Video Essay at the Orlando Film Festival, Special Mention at DocsMX in Mexico City, a Director's Choice Award from the Thomas Edison Film Festival,ÌýBest Short Documentary at the Sunscreen Film Festival, Best VR Interactive Documentary at the Melbourne Documentary Film Festival, and Best Immersive (Jury and Audience) at the CineGlobe Film Festival in Geneva, Switzerland.
